During the Autumn of 2010 Midas were delighted to receive a call from River Cottage HQ with an interesting conundrum, the success of the cookery schools held at the venue had eclipsed the available power on site. After one of the best site visits of the year (the food was outstanding) a plan was hatched. simplicity in itself and at all times keeping the core values of RCHQ in mind the plan was to install a generator on a semi permanent basis to exclusively power the ovens for the cookery school with cabling run into the barn on a temporary basis as and when needed. There were of coarse many other issues and questions to be answered, but working with the RCHQ team soon had everything in place, and so to the big day…….
Midas specified a JCB G40 RX diesel generator to handle the power requirements and a big thanks must go to JCB and there local dealership Greenshields for pulling out all the stops on this project and delivering the machinery ahead of schedule.
After conversion and testing, over the Christmas period Midas headed south for the install, a good drive down was followed by a text book operation, with the machine, remote tank and fuel all lifted in to place, cabling laid and all tested within two hours, its amazing what can be done when a warm fire side beckons!!
In keeping with the holistic approach of RCHQ conversations are already underway to explore the possibilities of processing the waste vegetable oil generated to go towards the fuel required to power this machine, suffice to say…there will be more news to follow!!
