Stage V Generator Hire

NRMM Compliant Temporary Power

Stage V is the current emission standard for non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) in the UK and EU. For certain contracts and locations, hiring a Stage V-compliant generator is required, not optional.

Midas stocks Stage V machines across a range of sizes and can advise honestly on whether Stage V applies to your project.

What Is Stage V?

Stage V is the fifth and most stringent tier of the EU Non-Road Mobile Machinery emission regulations, now retained in UK law. It sets limits on particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and other exhaust pollutants from off-road diesel engines, including temporary hire generators.

The regulations are enforced in the UK by the Environment Agency and local authorities. In practice, Stage V generators are most commonly specified for:

Midas Stage V Fleet

Our Stage V machines are available in the following sizes:

All units are sourced from JCB and Pramac and meet current Stage V particulate and NOx emission limits. Full compliance documentation is available on request.

What Stage V Means in Practice

Stage V generators use diesel particulate filter (DPF) technology and, on units above 56kW, AdBlue (diesel exhaust fluid) injection to reduce NOx emissions.

There are a few things worth understanding before specifying a Stage V machine:

Do You Need Stage V for Your Project?

Not every generator hire requires a Stage V machine. If your project does not have an NRMM management plan, is not in a designated Clean Air Zone, and has no specific emission compliance requirement in the contract, a standard diesel generator may be entirely appropriate and will cost less to hire.

We will always give you a straight answer on this. If Stage V is not required for your application, we will tell you and hire you the right machine at the right price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Stage V mandatory for all generator hires?

No. Stage V is required when a contract, site or local authority specifies NRMM emission compliance. For most private-sector hires, standard machines remain appropriate. If your tender documents mention NRMM or Clean Air Zones, call us to discuss.

AdBlue is a diesel exhaust fluid used in Stage V machines above 56kW to reduce NOx emissions. Midas supplies AdBlue with Stage V hires and can include scheduled top-ups as part of a fuel management package.

Yes. We can provide engine type approval documentation for all Stage V machines on our fleet.

We can arrange Stage V hire for the duration you require, even if the wider project uses standard machines. Speak to us about mixed fleet options.
