Generator Services - Everything Beyond the Machine
A generator is only part of the picture. Getting power reliably from the machine to where it needs to go and keeping it running for as long as you need it requires the right supporting services.
Midas provides everything that goes alongside a generator hire or sale: servicing and maintenance, fuel supply and management, remote monitoring, cable and distribution, transport, lifting and specialist electrical design. All from one company, all from the team that knows the equipment.
Use the links below to explore each service in full.
Midas has maintained generators in-house since the business started in 2000. We service our own hire fleet and have extended that capability to third-party machines, whether you own a single standby generator or run a fleet across multiple sites.
Services include annual and interim services, planned maintenance contracts, emergency callout and load bank testing. Every service is documented and carried out in accordance with ISO 9001 quality management standards. Maintenance contracts include 24/7 support access.
Every machine in the Midas hire fleet is fitted with remote monitoring as standard, no extra charge, no optional upgrade. We use JCB Livelink and DSEWebNet to track load levels, fuel consumption, engine parameters and fault status in real time.
Remote monitoring means issues are caught before they become failures, fuel deliveries are triggered by actual consumption data, and our team receives the same alerts you do, often before you call us. It is particularly valuable for unattended sites, remote agricultural locations and critical standby applications.
A generator produces the power. Distribution equipment gets it to where it is needed. Midas supplies armoured cables, distribution boards, spider boxes, 110V transformers, and cable protection equipment to complete your site or event’s power infrastructure.
Distribution is available as a standalone hire or as part of a complete package alongside generator hire. All equipment is specified to suit your load, voltage requirements and cable run distances. For events and productions requiring a BS7909 certificate, see our design and installation service.
Midas owns and operates its own delivery fleet — HGV and 4×4 vehicles — so every generator leaves our yard on our vehicle, driven by our team. There are no sub-contracted hauliers, no third-party scheduling delays and no gap in accountability between the hire company and the delivery driver.
Our 4×4 fleet handles sites where standard HGV access is impossible: agricultural fields, waterside locations and off-road construction sites. For placements requiring a crane lift, our HIAB-equipped vehicles can position generators over walls, into enclosed yards and in locations that trailers cannot reach.
Every generator comes with an integrated belly tank giving around 10 to 12 hours of autonomy. For long-term sites, remote agricultural operations and anywhere daily refuelling is not practical, an external bunded fuel tank extends that to days or weeks.
We hire the Western Global Transcube range in four sizes from 1,000 litres to 5,000 litres. All tanks are fully bunded — meeting UK oil storage regulations — and are plumbed directly into the generator’s fuel system. Add our fuel management service and the refuelling process becomes fully hands-off.
Midas monitors fuel consumption remotely via the telematics on our hire fleet and schedules deliveries based on actual usage data — not a fixed calendar. When your tank reaches a defined threshold, we arrange a top-up before it becomes a problem.
We supply DERV, AdBlue for Stage V machines, and HVO renewable diesel on request. Fuel management is particularly popular on agricultural hires, long-term infrastructure projects and any site where someone cannot be on hand to check fuel levels daily. Combine with a bunded fuel tank for fully managed, extended-autonomy power.
Our HIAB crane-equipped vehicles lift and place generators, fuel tanks and heavy plant in positions that standard trailers and forklifts cannot reach. This capability is used daily on our own hire jobs and is available to customers who need crane lifts independent of a generator hire.
Typical applications include positioning standby generators at commercial and agricultural premises, placing equipment in enclosed yards, and delivering to construction sites with restricted trailer access. All lifts are carried out by trained and certificated HIAB operators from our Suffolk depot.
BS7909 is the Code of Practice for temporary electrical systems in the entertainment industry — effectively mandatory for outdoor events, film and TV productions, festivals and any temporary gathering requiring power distribution. Midas designs the system, supplies the equipment, installs it and provides the certificate.
Having the generator supplier and the BS7909 designer as the same company closes a gap that causes problems on many events: no argument about whose responsibility the distribution is, no mismatch between generator output and system design, and a single point of contact for everything electrical on your site.
One Supplier for the Complete Job
Most generator hire companies drop off a machine and leave you to sort out the fuel, cables, monitoring, and maintenance. Midas can handle all of it, or just the parts you need.
Whether that is a generator and nothing else, or a fully managed power installation with maintenance contract and fuel management, we work to what suits you.
