Bunded Fuel Tank Hire

Extended Generator Autonomy

Every generator Midas hires out comes with an integrated belly tank, enough fuel for 10 to 12 hours of operation under normal load. For short hires and event power, that is often sufficient.

For long-term site work, agriculture, infrastructure projects or any application where someone cannot be on site daily to refuel, it is not.

Our bunded external fuel tanks solve that problem.

Positioned alongside your generator and plumbed directly into the fuel system, they extend your machine’s operational autonomy from hours to days, without daily site visits, without interruption, and without the risk of running dry at 2 am.

The Western Global Transcube Range

We use the Western Global Transcube range for our external fuel tank hire fleet, one of the most widely used temporary fuel storage systems in the UK hire industry. The Transcube is a fully bunded, stackable, self-contained fuel storage unit designed specifically for use alongside mobile plant and generators.

We stock the following sizes:

Specification sheets are available on request. Midas will recommend the appropriate tank size based on your generator’s fuel consumption rate and the frequency of top-ups.

Why Bunded?

All our external fuel tanks are fully bunded, meaning each tank has a secondary containment chamber that holds 110% of the primary tank’s capacity. This is a legal requirement for static fuel storage under the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) Regulations and protects the surrounding environment from spillage or leakage.

How It Works

Add Fuel Management

A bunded fuel tank extends your autonomy but still requires topping up. Our fuel management service removes that task entirely. Midas monitors fuel levels remotely via generator telematics and schedules deliveries before your tank runs dry.

This is particularly popular on agricultural sites and long-term infrastructure projects where daily site access is not practical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I hire just the fuel tank without a generator?

Yes. If you have your own generator on site, we can supply a standalone bunded fuel tank. Contact us to discuss sizing and plumbing requirements.

This depends on your generator’s fuel consumption rate, which varies by machine size and load. A 100kVA generator running at 75% load consumes approximately 14-18 litres per hour. At that rate, a 2,000-litre tank provides around 110–145 hours of autonomy. We will calculate this for your specific machine when you enquire.

We can supply fuel as part of our fuel management service. Alternatively, you can arrange your own fuel supply, we will confirm the fuel specification required for your generator.

For static storage above 200 litres, bunding is required under UK oil storage regulations. All our tanks meet this requirement as standard.
