Launched in December 2006, the Christmas Market at Winchester Cathedral has been drawing more and more people to the city, 350,000 at the last count, growing from 80 handpicked chalets to 101 in the process, and from 10 days to 32.
Inspired by traditional German Christmas markets, it incorporates a festive ice rink and a broad mix of big draw bars and festive food facilities, coupled with unique craft/product stalls. A hugely complex distribution job then.
“It requires a great deal of thought,” Midas Director, Dave Noble, says. “We put in 1,000amps of three-phase, with different demand in all quarters of the site.”
“There were problems with the power company and Midas has come in and put everything right,” Assistant Receiver General, Bob Forrester, says. “Theirs is a great team, full of experience, solutions and innovation.”
The Winchester Christmas Market runs until 21 December 2014.
