Midas will provide power to the Norfolk and Norwich Festival in May, for a second successive year.
With its roots set as far back as 1772, the event is one of the oldest city festivals, conceived as a fundraiser for the Norfolk and Norwich hospital. But, latterly at least, organisers have found telling space for production progress.
“Midas was recommended to me and I signed them up to supply the festival last summer,” technical manager, Andrew Stock, explains. “They are very easy to deal with and there will be more Midas kit on the ground this time, to fit a bigger footprint.
“My first concern, naturally enough, is that everything works. Beyond that, we’re always looking to reduce our environmental impact and having 99 per cent of our power from pure biodiesel is a big factor.”
Funded and supported Arts Council England, and shaped by artistic director William Galinsky, the Norfolk and Norwich Festival 2014 will feature turns from the likes of ‘dance iconoclast’ Michael Clark, Grammy award winners Snarky Puppy and the Philharmonia Orchestra. The outdoor programme includes a finale from Safe House, which combines aerialists, projection and a ‘poignant reflection of what we call home’.
