We’re after the quietest 5kVA there is… Can you help?
Was the question posed to Midas from Manchester based production company Ear to the Ground, specifically to power part of the Samsung promotional display touring the UK with the Olympic Torch Relay.
The brief was simple… a 5kVA with sound levels at no more than 60db at 1m, able to moved easily by two people, and with that Midas set to work.
The machine side of the operation was relatively simple and we finally decided on a Pramac P4500 as the power plant, and now for the tricky bit, reducing the noise levels from 96LWA down to that required.
Obviously we can’t be expected to reveal all our secrets but suffice to say a series of attenuation panels with a 400w fan to help drive the air flow achieved, when measured a reading of 59db at 1m.
With a tight build schedule achieved by a matter of hours it was off to Star Events HQ in Bedford where the whole ensemble was loaded on to a truck and disappeared off for its grand tour.
Since finishing the tour at the end of July the machine and attenuated box have been in great demand, within a matter of days heading up to north Norfolk for the month of August powering part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival most challenging project yet.
